Here at 11:FS we’re very proud to announce that tomorrow four members of our team will be running the gruelling London West Full Tough Mudder to raise money for Kidney Research UK. It’s an issue and a charity close to our hearts, especially so for one of our team members.

Tough Mudder is a famously intense challenge set to push our brave runners to their limits for charity. A 10 mile course with 20 gruelling obstacles featuring water, small spaces, and of course, mud. Laura, Tom, Tom (sadly they don’t have a great sense of direction) and Veronique are going to be hitting the obstacle course hard. Waking up early in the morning, bleary-eyed and more than a little cold, they’ll be spending 10 long miles trudging/running through mud, dodging electric wires, and generally getting very very muddy. But it shouldn’t be so hard for one of our team. Laura Watkins, Content Creator extraordinaire, formally Head of Content Creation, but that’s got less intensity as a title.

Charging Ahead For Charity!

Laura is leading the charge on our Tough Mudder team, she was the first to sign up and her story is one of the reasons we chose Kidney Research UK as the charity we wanted to run for. Every woman in Laura’s family (including her) suffers from Polycystic Kidney Disease. Currently an incurable condition except for kidney transplants. Transplants only last 10 - 15 years. But there is hope. Thanks to the incredible work done by Kidney Research UK, new medicines and possible cures are being trialled all the time. All of this requires fundraising and with it there’s a real chance that Laura herself may never need to have a transplant. To make this happen we’re raising every penny we can. We want to make sure Polycystic Kidney Disease no longer means sufferers have to get a transplant and pay for their own anti-rejection medication for the rest of their lives. 60,000 people die prematurely each year because of chronic kidney disease in the UK. 64,000 people are being treated for end-stage renal failure. More than 5000 people are waiting for a kidney each year yet only around 3,000 transplants are carried out. Tough Mudder is the biggest physical challenge our team has ever done, and they’re sure to be wrecked by the end of it. But they’re happy to face icy waters and more mud than you’ve ever seen for such a worthy cause. Click here to donate as much as you can. Please select gift aid as appropriate.
