Leda Writes for Fintech Futures: Reclaiming the language of core banking
Every Thursday, Leda Glyptis, 11:FS Chief of Staff creates #LedaWrites. This week she turns her attention to legacy and core banking.
Remember when legacy was a good thing? Artists, architects, and aristocrats all vie to leave a legacy. Someone who leaves a legacy has left something powerful, evocative and brilliant. Unfortunately, #LedaWrites that’s not the case for bankers, accountants and IT techs. To them legacy is a archaic word covered in cobwebs, reminiscent of a steam engine. Too often it’s used as a defence against doing new things.
On the other hand, core banking systems are not an excuse to have another messy system hidden behind shiny pretty things. Your core needs to be the driving force behind what your bank is, not the thing that holds it back. Your legacy should represent what you want to be, not an excuse to cut back on ambition.
